Members and Flock
There are two ways for several people to work with Zekt under one bill:
- Members share one account. Everyone works on the same repositories and services.
- Flock links separate accounts. Each person keeps their own account, but the costs go to one paying account.
Members
Section titled “Members”Manage members under Profile → Members.
| Role | Can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including billing and managing members. |
| Billing | Invoices, payment method and usage, plus everything a Member can do. |
| Member (default) | Everyday product use. No billing and no member management. |
Everyone on the account can see who belongs to it. Only owners can add, change or remove members.
Add a member
Section titled “Add a member”- Go to Profile → Members.
- Type the person’s GitHub username and choose a role.
- Confirm. The person is added straight away. Zekt sends no invitation and no email, so let them know yourself.
Common messages when adding someone:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| GitHub has no user called … | Check the spelling of the username. |
| … is a GitHub organisation, not a person | Members are people. Enter a personal GitHub username. |
| We could not check that username with GitHub just now. Nothing has changed | GitHub didn’t answer. Try again shortly. |
| already owns this account / already a … on this account | The person is already on the account. Change their role instead. |
Change or remove members
Section titled “Change or remove members”Use the filters Active, Owners, Removed and All to find people. Removed members stay in the list as history.
To protect the account:
- The last owner can’t be removed or demoted. Add another owner first.
- The account owner, the GitHub login the account belongs to, can’t be removed or demoted on this screen.
Only owners can remove members. To leave an account, ask one of its owners to remove you.
When someone leaves a GitHub organization
Section titled “When someone leaves a GitHub organization”If someone is removed from a GitHub organization that has the Zekt GitHub App installed, Zekt removes them from every Zekt account they’re a member of. This applies however they were added, and to all of their accounts, not only those connected to that organization. An owner can add them back.
There are two exceptions:
- An account’s only owner stays, and the account gets a notice asking it to add another owner.
- The account owner, the GitHub login the account belongs to, is never removed this way.
Joining a GitHub organization never grants access to any Zekt account.
Which account you act for
Section titled “Which account you act for”- If you own a Zekt account, you always act for that account.
- If you don’t own an account but are a member of one, you act for that account.
- If you don’t own an account and are an active member of more than one, Zekt can’t tell which one you mean. You can sign in, but you aren’t linked to any account and are told to contact Zekt support.
Flock: Shepherd and Disciple accounts
Section titled “Flock: Shepherd and Disciple accounts”Use Profile → Flock when another person should keep their own Zekt account but have its costs billed to yours. The paying account is the Shepherd. The linked account is a Disciple.
- In the Shepherd account, go to Profile → Flock and create an invitation for the other person’s GitHub username. You can restrict the link to a GitHub organization that you both belong to.
- Send the link yourself. Zekt doesn’t email it. It’s valid for 7 days.
- When the person accepts:
- their account becomes a Disciple account, and its costs are billed to the Shepherd;
- they’re also added as a member of the Shepherd’s account.
A Shepherd can create and revoke API tokens for an accepted Disciple.
A Shepherd can also limit what its Disciples connect to with Doctrine.
